Mike Frankel started taking photographs of
rock bands in 1964, shooting The Beatles on their furst tour of the USA. After
that he bore witness to some of the most famous bands in the history of rock
and roll in venues like The Fillmore and at WOODSTOCK. Taking photographs of
bands like The Jefferson Airplane, Eric Clapton, Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd, The
Grateful Dead, Alice Cooper, Joe Cocker, Frank Zappa, David Bowie and many others.
Mike Frankel is more than a photographer.
There are many photographers that were in the right place at the right
time and took some great pictures. Frankel took his opportunity and created
what we think are the most unique images that captured both the visual
but also the musical vibe of the bands he photographed. Using mutiple exposures
he created a visual representation of the music he was hearing. Some of
his pictures are truly psychedelic and one can only imagine being there
at The Fillmore, on whatever trip you might be on and having an image very
similar to the ones he created floating through your "Opened" mind. Frankel
is one of a very few select photographers that were able to take a picture
and make something much more of it than their contemporaries.
The Visual Gallery is presenting the photography
of Mike Frankel in the form of limited edition art prints. Using the talented
artistry of our artist MACRAE and others we are creating unique prints
showcasing the imagry of Mike Frankel. In addition there is a developing
line of apparel based on these images.
The Grateful Dead
Fillmore East 1970

24"X17"
This show was in 1970 at New Yorks Fillmore East. The photograph is an original taken by iconic 60's photographer Mike Frankel. The image is a multi-exposure using his innovative style to recreate the "vibe" of the music in photographic form. This has not been altered digitally this is how it was originally intended to look. We think it's incredible.
